Starting from fifth grade, Hisar Schools students are offered a second foreign language course in German, French or Spanish, depending on their choice. The goals of our Modern Languages Department are to stress the importance of a second foreign language, to raise interest in the language they selected, to teach the four basic skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – using the communicative method. The department also enhances the course program with international projects to extend the students’ experience beyond the classroom.
The aim of the department is to educate independent thinking individuals who are able to communicate in the language they learn, respect different cultural values, and follow the developments in the world.
Our students take internationally accepted certification tests to prove their language proficiency. Taking the exams of Goethe Institute, Cervantes Institute and French Cultural Center, they obtain foreign language certificates which are recognized worldwide.
At the German Cultural Center’s film and poster contest, titled “Learning German is Worthwhile”, our students’ works were awarded the second place among 52 posters, and the third place among 14 films. The two-year long Comenius project, led jointly with the Lycée Externat Notre Dame in Grenoble/France, was completed successfully.
