The Advanced Placement (AP) program is being offered in the United States of America and implemented and recognized at more than 60 countries throughout the world. The AP program provides an opportunity for students to take some university or college courses while these students are still at high school, thus enabling the students to be exempt from these courses as they continue their higher education. By taking the AP courses students have an advantage in the college admission process and are distinguished from rest of the applicants in their favor. Students who take AP courses during the college application year also take the AP exams at the end of the year; this indicates that they are better prepared for university. These students have taken some university courses while they were at high school and have passed these courses with success. Students who take AP courses are expected to take the exams of these respective courses during the 1st and 2nd week of May. For example, if a student who takes AP Biology course will have to take the AP exam in May; a score of 3 out of 5 points will help the student to be exempt from this course at the 1st grade at the university and to graduate sooner.
AP courses are opened at our school in accordance with the requests and needs of our students. Our purpose is to increase the number of AP courses in our program every year. Last year we had two AP courses; this year these courses are increased to 12 and are approved by the College Board. Our school is one of the few schools in Turkey, that can offer a variety of AP courses with such a broad spectrum.
