An arboretum is an area in nature where a collection of trees, shrubs and other woody plants of specific origins and ages, each labeled carefully and correctly, and intended for scientific study and observation, are grown and displayed on suitable and appropriate pieces of land.
Our visit to the Atatürk Arboretum started at the lake and continued to the pond and the road lined with pine trees. The students had an opportunity to see and study a big variety of trees, shrubs, and flowers, and learned their names by reading the labels on each plant. At times they found the plants or animals they have studied and had a chance to observe these more closely. The students spent some time in fresh air and listened to the birds and had a learning experience about how to behave and act in a plant museum. Following the trip, students shared their observations of the arboretum in class activities, made booklets about living beings they saw in nature, using color themes.
